This Privacy Policy explains Xam Guide Private Limited (the “Company”, “we”, “us” or “our”) commitment towards governing our collection and use of personal identifiable information (“PII”) and other information about Users (“You” and “Your”) we shall collect that for the purpose of our Platform/Application, “Iyal” (“Platform”); the manner of collection of PII; the purpose of collection of PII and the circumstances under which disclosure of PII shall be permitted. It is the Company’s policy to comply with data protection legislation.

This Policy applies to those who visit the Platform or whose information the Company otherwise receives in connection with its services. The statements and procedures mentioned under this Privacy Policy shall be read in conjunction with the Terms and Conditions available on our Platform. The Company reserves the right to change this policy by updating this page. You will be notified via email or an in-app notification.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Account and usage information

When you use the Iyal app, we collect and process various types of personal, usage, and technical information to provide and enhance our services. The types of information collected include:

a. Personal identification information (PII) for account creation and login, such as name, email address, and password, exam preparation category, and other optional personal details to personalize the user experience.

b. Uploaded content and study materials, which you may upload documents into custom modules (folders) through:

(i) Device camera (scanned documents),

(ii) File upload from local storage, or,

(iii) Direct links to online documents.

c. Subscription and payment information details, including:

(i) Plan details (name, duration, generation count),

(ii) Payment information (date, receipt number, amount, payment status),

(iii) Subscription timeline (start and end dates),

d. Usage data on your engagement with the Platform, such as:

(i) Reader Mode usage (reading duration and progress),

(ii) Exam performance (history, scores, analytics)

(iii) Flashcard session summaries (number of cards reviewed).

1.2 Automatically Collected Technical and Usage Data

To maintain and improve our Platform, we use third-party analytics and performance monitoring services. These services automatically collect technical and usage data when you interact with the Platform. This may include device information (OS, device type, IP address, unique identifiers), performance and crash reports, and details about your engagement with our features (e.g., screens viewed, time spent). We use this data to analyse trends, diagnose and fix technical problems, improve functionality, and enhance your user experience.

1.3 Third-party account integration

If you choose to sign in or connect your account through a third-party email provider (e.g., Gmail or Apple ID). You consent to the collection, storage, and use of the information shared through that integration in accordance with this Privacy Policy. This may include your email address, name, and profile information provided by the third-party service. Please review the privacy policy of your email service provider to understand how they handle and share your information when linked to external platforms like ours.

2. How we use your information

We process your personal information fairly, lawfully, and only for legitimate purposes. The purposes for which we may process your information include, but are not limited to, the following:

2.1 We use your personal identifiable information for the following purposes:

(i) Provide personalized content, services, and advertising.

(ii) Informing you about other products or services offered by the Company or its affiliates.

(iii) Conducting surveys, promotions, and research activities, including publishing results where appropriate.

(iv) Utilizing your information in artificial intelligence systems to enhance, customise, and personalise features and your overall experience.

(v) Contact you with relevant information regarding your use of the Platform or Services, as well as providing technical assistance and customer support.

2.2 We also use the information we collect to provide, maintain, and enhance the functionality and performance of the Platform. This includes managing your user account, enabling you to sign in securely, and allowing password resets when required.

2.3 Your information is used to personalise your learning experience by transforming uploaded educational documents into an intelligent learning ecosystem. This includes the generation of smart study guides, context-specific practice questions, and dynamic flashcards using AI, with your optional personal bio helping tailor content to your goals.

2.4 We also use the information to help you organise and manage your study materials. This includes enabling the creation of custom modules (folders), renaming and tagging uploaded documents, applying subject classifications, and extracting text from scanned documents. Selected content is processed through Generative AI to generate relevant academic outputs, and automated content moderation filters are applied to prevent the creation of harmful, offensive, or inappropriate content, such as hate speech, sexually explicit material, harassment, violence, or content violating civic integrity.

2.5 Your subscription and billing data are used to manage your plan details and payment history and to process transactions securely through the payment gateway. We also use your information to communicate with you, for example, to send important service-related notifications, respond to support queries, and gather feedback. Testimonials submitted by you may be used publicly if explicit permission is granted.

2.6 Usage data, such as reading statistics, exam results, and flashcard session summaries, are processed and displayed to help you track your progress and optimise your study sessions. This information also informs us about feature performance, enabling us to improve and refine the Platform. Additionally, we use collected data to ensure the Platform’s security, validate user inputs, manage access permissions, and handle technical errors efficiently.

2.7 We do not sell or share your information with third parties for direct marketing or promotional purposes. Your information will only be shared in compliance with this Privacy Policy and applicable data protection laws.

3. Data Retention

3.1 When you delete modules or files, they are moved to a "Bin" and retained for 30 days. After this 30-day period, they are automatically and permanently deleted.

3.2 You have the option to permanently delete items from the Bin immediately.

4. Third-party service integration

4.1 The Platform integrates with certain third-party services to enable core functionalities and enhance your overall user experience. These integrations include, but are not limited to, artificial intelligence, payment processing services, login/authentication options, analytics tools, and cloud-based infrastructure providers.

4.2 We use third-party payment gateway to process payments and manage subscription-related transactions securely. When you initiate a payment, relevant billing information such as your name, transaction ID, payment amount, and payment status is shared with the payment gateway in accordance with their data protection practices. We do not store your payment card details on our servers. We encourage you to review their respective privacy policies to understand how your data is handled.

4.3 Third-party services integrated into the Platform are selected with due diligence and are bound by their own privacy and security obligations. However, we are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party providers beyond the scope of our integration. We advise users to exercise caution and review the terms and policies of any linked third-party services when using such features within the Platform.

6. Data Security

We prioritise the security of your account, requiring you to choose a strong password for your account. The Platform is built with secure user authentication as an essential module. We strive to protect your data through appropriate technical and organisational measures.

7. Retention, Deletion, and Updating of Personal Information

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to enable your continued use of our services, to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, to comply with legal obligations, or as otherwise communicated to you. The duration for which specific personal information is retained varies depending on its intended use, legal requirements, and operational necessity. We will delete your personal information in accordance with applicable legal obligations and any instructions provided by you, subject to any legal or regulatory retention requirements.

We may retain certain personally identifiable information (PII) for purposes such as troubleshooting, system improvement, and training software models to enhance accuracy. Such PII will be encrypted, stored in a secure location separate from other personal data, and will only be accessible to authorized personnel within the Company.

This Privacy Policy takes effect on the date indicated at the top and will remain in force unless modified. Any updates or changes to this Privacy Policy will take effect immediately upon being posted on this page. We reserve the right to revise or update this Privacy Policy at any time.
